OHNIN Convening 2022

The Ohio Nutrition Incentive Network (OHNIN) is a partnership of Ohio healthy food retailers, producers, state agencies, national experts, and local partners working toward a shared vision of affordable access to healthy, local foods. Our partners Produce Perks Midwest facilitate OHNIN, which holds a regular convening event. The Convening is a time to bring the network together to talk policy program implementation and to strategize as a statewide group. This year, the convening featured a keynote presentation by Executive Director of Produce Perks Midwest, Tevis Foreman, Ohio Senator Matt Dolan, and Franklin County Commissioner Erica Crawley, who spoke on a vision of opportunity and resilience for Ohio’s food system. There was an overview of the Basics of Nutrition Incentives, and then nine panel sessions across three tracks: Food System Policy, Healthy Food Systems, and Community-Based Assets.

Our Food Policy Council presented in the Food System Policy Track in a session called "USDA Programs & Their Impact," which addressed how the Farm Bill and United Stated Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant programs impact Ohioans. Director Maddie Chera shared about some of the things we have been able to accomplish together through our four grants from the USDA.
